Over the years traveling on my own and leading hundreds of people and countless groups, I’ve learned a few things — not everything, not all useful, but enough to get on pretty well. Here’s some advice, in no particular order:
1. Never pass up a clean restroom.
2. Cameras can get wetter than you think.
3. Pack your biggest shoes on the way there. Wear them on the way home.
4. Leave something new for the next visit. You can’t pack it all in one trip anyway.
5. Pack. Unpack. Leave half of it at home. Repack.
6. A concierge can be very helpful, even if you’re not staying at that hotel.
7. Ask the staff where they eat, not what the hotel recommends.
8. Leave time to just wander around.
9. Double check the chargers, batteries, cables, adapters, etc.
10. Try something new — culture, arts, activity, food. Especially food.
